Start with the newborn's arm function and the delivery record
A brachial plexus injury can have different causes. A malpractice review should reconstruct labor, fetal position, delivery maneuvers documented, newborn examinations, and the later neurologic or orthopedic course rather than assuming the diagnosis proves an improper delivery.

- Prenatal and labor-and-delivery records
- Delivery note describing presentation and maneuvers
- Newborn neurologic and extremity examinations
- Pediatric neurology or orthopedic evaluations
- Therapy records and any electrodiagnostic or imaging studies obtained
- Records of surgery or long-term functional limitation
